Did you know that July 2nd was actually the day that congress voted in favor of independence? Then two days later they adopted the Declaration of Independence. John Adams refused to celebrate on the 4th of July because he believed America should celebrate on the 2nd. He reportedly refused to go to barbecues and celebrations in protest. Then when Thomas Jefferson and Adams died 50 years later on July 4th, that is when it was finalized as the American Holiday.
