Welcome back to another day of #blogtiptuesday! The last few weeks I brought you some pretty informative posts and today is hopefully no different. I am going to try to keep this as short as I can, but packed with pertinent info on how to pimp out your blog posts. Meaning, how to set them up for success and how I write my posts to get maximum exposure!
I am going to go through exactly what I do from the start of my posts to the end..I am not going to get into the nitty gritty details because it will turn into a super long post, but if you have questions please feel free to ask. I am thinking about turning this into a video series just to make it super clear for those of you just starting out. SO if that interests you please let me know!
Keyword research! Yes that is scary for some of you (and me), but I promise its not as bad as it sounds. I do this step in order to determine my headline and what keyword I will use throughout my posts. I go to adwords.google.com and to the keyword planner.
I start by typing a few words that describe my project/post and see which ones pull in the most searches. Then I check to see how much money per ad can be made and how many people are using that keyword. I use a mix of low, med and high volume keywords and try to really dig into which words will work the best.
Then I write down about 20 different keywords and pick from those. I use one in my headline then use that word at least 3 times in the post. Then I add the keywords (up to 10 of them) into the tags, and keywords for SEO. Make sure you have a SEO plugin for wordpress. I use All in One SEO but SEO by Yoast is another one that many bloggers use.
After you know what you headline will be, its time to make your images pinnable. I go to Canva and open a Pinterest size image to create. Upload the image I am going to use and drop it in. Then I change the text for the image and save it.
Then I open it up in Picmonkey and add text. You can do this right from canva too, but I like using picmonkey because I can use fonts off of my computer and have way more editing options. I bought the royal version, which I think is super cheap for a year of use, but then I don’t have to worry about not being allowed to use certain things for editing or fonts.
Along with the pinterest image, I make a social media image..which is the 800×800 square in canva. I just insert the same image it if works, if not I use another image that I will have inside of my post. Then go back to PicMonkey and add the text to it too.
Add these two images to my media and add text to the ALT and description boxes. This is a part you do not want to skip. If you do not put text in there or make sure that your image has information on it other than “image 12939”, that “image…” is what will show up when someone shares or pins your image. Horrible for SEO and for getting people interested in your photo, especially on Pinterest.
Then I insert the square image into the “featured image” spot and the long pinterest photo into the top of my post. This is just my preference..and you can make any image sizes you want, but I want my images to spread in Pinterest so making sure my posts have a long image is the best practice..although you do not have to have an image directly at the top of your post, that is your call!
Start writing! I make sure to use my main keyword in the first paragraph, and then a few times throughout the post. I add my images as I write because it helps me figure out where images need to be and what needs to be said. This is another personal preference. I know some bloggers who will write all of their posts and then write “IMAGE” where they want an image to go, and then go back in after they finish writing to add images.
Schedule my post to promote in Coschedule and finish filling out my SEO title and description of the post. I am sure you are sick of hearing me talk about Coschedule by now, but I am quite obsessed! Here is a screen shot of what the bottom of my posts look like and how I schedule my posts to be shared..
This is what the end of my post editor looks like. CoSchedule gives me the option to post same time as the post to G+ group, facebook and FB pages, twitter, and tumblr. Then I can schedule it to go out every day after that for eternity if I wanted to and you can choose which times you want to publish. It is a LIFE LINE for me! I would never remember to promote posts after a few days, and this has helped me increase traffic from all of my social media sites! If you are not set up on CoSchedule yet..check it out HERE. It is the best $10 I spend every month..next to Boardbooster which is up next!
Then I do a double check to make sure I filled in my tags, keywords on All in one SEO, and anything that needs edited.
I created a board on pinterest called “Best of Live Randomly Simple”. I pin every new post to that board. Then I pin that image to 2 other boards. Then I pin that image onto my secret boards with BoardBooster.
Boardbooster is a pin scheduler that lets you set up secret boards for your boards. So say I have my board called “DIY” when I go into boardbooster I can choose that board, it will create a secret board with that same name. Now anything I pin to that secret board will pin throughout the day to the public “DIY” board.
It really helps me have an online presence since I obviously do not want to sit on my computer all day pinning…wait, yes I do! Uhhh pinterest addiction is so much fun lol. But I pin a lot of images from my Totally Terrific Tuesday link party onto my secret boards so that those bloggers get extra attention too! It helps me pin randomly throughout the day so that I am not pinning 100 pins all at the same time and not letting anything have time to shine in the spotlight. You can give it a try HERE.
After I have my post scheduled to be shared on social media, and on pinterest its time to submit it to any relevant submission sites. I go through my list of sites HERE and pick a couple that I think will take that post. These sites will feature your post and link back to you putting your content in front of all kinds of new readers!
Say a little prayer that your post goes viral and is a huge success because you just pimped out your post and got it out there for all to see!
If you have questions about how to use certain things, or want to see walk through videos, feel free to ask. I think it could be very helpful, but that is just my opinion! Or if you do something that I missed..let me know! I would love to know if I am missing something that would help others!!
