Hey you, glad your here. This is going to be a quick tutorial on how I had to re-size a T-Shirt for my daughter because I was on a time crunch to find a new Pirates Tee for her to wear for school, and of course all they had were boy’s in stock. So we had to make it work. Sorry this photo is kind of blurry, I just now noticed it. BOO camera!
You can go here to see a better photo of it and the story about why she is dressed so darn cute!
This was a boys Med. and my little tiny girl just swam in it. This was the first time I have ever attempted this design and being it was last minute I just had to go with the flow and get it done.
First I put it on her and figured out how much I wanted to take off of the sides. It ended up being a little over an inch on each side that I cut and I could of went more, but it worked out good still. By the time I found the shirt and made it home it was almost her bed time, so she only got to try the shirt on before I made all of the adjustments. Don’t you just love being rushed lol.
Please do not judge my dog hair. I just vacuumed an hr before I did this…I swear my dog lays down and when he gets up you can see his body shape in the hair he leaves behind. YUCK. My vacuum cleaner hates me and I could use a new one from vacuuming 20 times a day!! Anyone have a great one for dog hair and hard wood floors you want to recommend, I would love to hear about it!
Ok back to the shirt haha. See how I cut up the sides. I stopped at the armpit, but then realized there was going to be a hole there. So I ended up cutting up to the end of the sleeve hoping that it would not be to tight on her arms. I could not find any DIY’s on how to do this in the 10 minutes I had to search for it. Crazy right!? I know there are probably a TON of them but they did not want to be found the other night! (sadface)
After it was cut I cut down the seam (sorry I did not get a photo of this, but I think you can tell in the photo above how it is cut into two pieces) then tied them together, and double knot. It was quite hard to tie those tiny pieces in certain spots! BOOM, done! I think the whole process took 30 minutes, and mostly because tying it was giving me troubles.
At this point she was already passed out so I had no idea if it was going to work or not. Glad I woke her up a bit earlier in the morning because the sleeves were funky looking because the seam was not on her shoulder so it looked way to big on her. I quickly cut off the collar and from the seam on the sleeve to the collar I make some more cuts and tied them. There was a big hole on the ends by the seam so I tucked them in and sewed it shut. Took me about another 15 minutes or so.
Can you see the hole? I just folded it in and sewed a straight stitch over it about 2 inches long just to hide the hole and it made it fit her shoulder better too. It ended up turning out really cute and I am actually glad I had to try this method out because next time I am sure it will go quicker. Sorry the photos were not the best, I was trying to do it and take pics so quick that I didnt check them before I uploaded them.
