Hey friends! Its almost St. Patrick’s day and in honor of this fun Irish holiday I wanted to make something that is not only cute by itself, but can double as a photo backdrop for other projects, a project for kids, and St. Patricks Day party decor.
Actually in the next few weeks I am going to be showing you how I made this white wood backdrop, the green wood backdrop, and a few others to help with your photos appeal. It is always fun staging products you make and since I have a craft store I am constantly taking pictures of things we make!
To start you are going to need a few simple supplies:
12×12 scrapbook paper:
scissors or a handy paper cutter
double sided tape or fast drying glue
string for hanging
I used double sided scrapbook paper that I had laying around. I lucked out because I had a ton of green papers, the only hard part was to decide which ones to use because I had SOO many cute papers! I found *these really cute papers for you on Amazon..so if you don’t have a local scrapbooking store, you can order these ones here!
I am going to show you how I made the large one. But from this tutorial you can make all different sizes. I made a few smaller by cutting the measurements in half! Pick out the papers you want to use and cut 4 strips (1 inch thick and 12 inches long). Then with a different paper (or same, your call) cut 4 more strips (1 inch thick 10 inches long). Then cut a 12 inch strip, 1 inch thick, for the stem in either a solid green or color of your choosing.
See…4 strips 12 inches long and then 4 strips 10 inches long and one stem 12 inches long. The dark green paper has that cute dotted print on the back so I flipped one over just to show you the fun pattern.
Now we are going to fold them. Fold the 12 in strips so that the wrong sides touching. Fold the 10 inch strips with the right sides touching. Leave the stem paper be for now.
Take the 12 inch trips and fold them into hearts. I used double sided tape to stick them together but you can use glue. I tried using glue but you had to hold the paper together for a while until it dried and I am inpatient. Now that I think about it..if you have paperclips laying around, you could use glue and then put a paperclip on it to hold it while you make the rest. I am so smart haha.
These hearts would make a cute banner even..so pin it to your banner making boards on pinterest so you don’t forget!! Anyway lets get back to it, shall we. Now we are going to take the 10 inch strips and fold them inside the larger hearts. Just tape/glue he paper at the center. Then I added a dab of glue on the bottom points so that they look like they are one piece.
Next grab that paper for your stem. There are two different options. If you have double sided paper then just cut the stem in half and use one half. If you are using one sided paper then fold the paper in half wrong sides touching. Grab a pencil or paint brush and curve one end of the paper. Then glue/tape two hearts onto the stem. Take two more hearts and glue/tape a string in between them.
Once that is done you can tape the top to the bottom and BOOM. You just made a super cute photo prop or turn it into a fun banner for St. Patricks day! I am loving these Lucky Four Leaf Clovers right now!
What will you use them for?
