Some days we just need a great inspirational scripture to remind us that God is within us. Soo..why not have it on a pretty DIY wooden sign!! There are so many days when I wake up I just want to look at something inspiring to motivate me and give me a positive thought first thing in the morning and this hit the spot.
This was quite to make and I am going to walk you through it, but if you don’t want to spend the time creating it and and just WANT it…LIKE NOW…you can go to my Etsy Shop and I will make it for you.
Ok so if you are ready to take the challenge and create your own scripture artwork here is the step by step guide.
Lets gather the supplies you will need first.
A board. I used a 9×13 board that I cut from a 8ft board. But you can buy cut boards on Amazon. Here is a really neat one I found…or here is a thinner board that would work perfectly too, you may have to trim if you do not like the excess but I think it would look awesome this size.
White paint (any kind will work)
Chip brush. If you do not know what that is click HERE (I use these ALL of the time so I like to have all the sizes on hand)
Paint Pens. I used an Extra Fine and a Fine tip for this project. This is a great set to have on hand. I use these daily.
Stain in a dark shade. I used THIS kind
Printed graphic. You can do a quick search for any scripture on Pinterest or Google and find tons of pretty printables.
Now that we got that list out of the way and you can see excatly what products you can use and where you can get them if you do not have a local place that sells them we can finally start!
First you want to start by staining your board and let it dry fully.
Then using the white paint and a chip brush you are going to dry brush the white paint on the board. Dry brushing is super easy..you just dip the brush in the paint getting only a small amount of paint on the brush. Wipe it off or dab it on a paper towel a few times and then lightly paint the board. It will be streaky and spots will not be covered. Go over the board a few times until you are satisfied and let it dry.
Lightly sand the board over the paint just to make sure it is a smooth surface, especially if you use chalk paint.
Next, flip your graphic over and using the charcoal rub the back side of the image making sure you cover any spot that has the text. You can use a regular pencil for this but the charcoal is sooo much easier and quicker to get full coverage and a nice dark outline. I have done it both ways but charcoal is my go to method.
Then flip it over and tape the paper onto your board.
Now is the part where you get to be in first grade again and practice tracing things. Try to be as accurate as possible but if you mess up it is not a big deal!
After you trace your whole image remove the printed graphic.
Then using your paint markers its time to color! I love having different sized markers for projects like this because when you have smaller details to fill in the extra fine tips come in handy. Plus if you do mess up you can go back over the edges with the extra fine tip and even everything out.
Then you can decorate it or leave it blank. I choose to do the gold dots on the top and bottom with a gold arrow. You can use paint or get a metallic paint pen like I have. Have I mentioned how much I love paint markers!!! Plus I am super obsessed with gold and white so this was the perfect color combo for me, but you can pick any colors you want to do on these projects.
And there you have it..30ish minutes later you have a beautiful sign that you can hang on the wall if you add a hanger or sit on a shelf. I love that this project can be so customized with any saying, any image, any colors…its endless!
Have you done something like this before? Remember, if you LOVE this project and want it NOW you can head on over to my Etsy shop and pick one up today!
